Le mizo (ou lushai) est une langue tibéto-birmane parlée dans l'État du Mizoram, en Inde, ainsi que dans les États voisins de l'Assam et du Manipur par environ 540 000 Mizo. Une petite partie d'entre eux vit en dehors de l'Inde, en Birmanie et au Bangladesh.

Tons

Le mizo est une langue tonale qui possède quatre tons : haut, bas, descendant et montant. Deux tons supplémentaires sont réduits et ont les qualités hautes et basses[3].

Mizo (auch Lushai) ist eine tibetobirmanische Sprache, die von den Mizo im indischen Bundesstaat Mizoram und in den angrenzenden Regionen gesprochen wird. Es ist eine Tonsprache und in mehrere Dialekte eingeteilt. Geschrieben wird es mit dem lateinischen Alphabet, das von christlichen Missionaren eingeführt wurde.

The Mizo language, or Mizo ṭawng, is a Kuki-Chin-Mizo language belonging to the Tibeto-Burman family of languages, spoken natively by the Mizo people in the Mizoram state of India and Chin State in Myanmar. The language is also known as Duhlian and Lushai, a colonial term, as the Duhlian people were the first among the Mizos to be encountered by the British in the course of their colonial expansion.[5] The Mizo language is mainly based on Lusei dialect but it has also derived many words from its surrounding Mizo sub-tribes and sub-clan. Now, Mizo language or Mizo ṭawng is the lingua franca of Mizoram and its surrounding areas and to a lesser extent of Myanmar and Bangladesh and in India in some parts of Assam, Tripura and Manipur. Many poetic languages are derived from Pawi, Paite, and Hmar, and most known ancient poems considered to be Mizo are actually in Pawi.[5][clarification needed] Mizo is the official language of Mizoram,[6] along with English, and there have been efforts to have it included in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India.[7]

Мизо относится к куки-чинской ветви тибето-бирманской группы языков. Число носителей — около 843 000 человек. Из них 831 000 в Индии (перепись 2011 года)[2].
