Le sandawe est une langue tonale parlée dans la région de Dodoma, en Tanzanie. On dénombre actuellement entre 30 000 (Tucker, 1977) et 70 000 (SIL 1987) locuteurs. Elle est classée par Greenberg (1976) comme une langue khoïsan en raison de la présence de clics dans sa prononciation.

Le sandawe a une écriture standardisée, plusieurs locuteurs représentant différentes parties de la région parlant le sandawe s’étant mis en accord sur une orthographe lors d’une réunion en 2002[1].

[en] Sandawe language

Sandawe is a language spoken by about 60,000 Sandawe people in the Dodoma Region of Tanzania. Sandawe's use of click consonants, a rare feature shared with only two other language of East Africa – Hadza and Dahalo, had been the basis of its classification as a member of the defunct Khoisan family of Southern Africa since Albert Drexel in the 1920s. Recent investigations however (Güldemann 2010) suggest that Sandawe may be related to the Khoe family regardless of the validity of Khoisan as a whole. Сандаве (Kisandawe, Sandaui, Sandaweeki, Sandawe, Sandawi, Sandwe) — язык одноимённого народа, распространённый в районе Кондоа (между реками Бубу и Мпонде) провинции Додома в Танзании. Язык активно используется как среди взрослых, так и среди детей. Пожилые люди в отдалённых областях одноязычны. Большинство носителей используют суахили как язык межэтнического общения. Понимание других языков затруднено. Для сандаве разработана письменность на основе латиницы, но в Танзании распространено мнение, что он слишком сложен, чтобы писать и читать (Ethnologue, 2005).
