Il dialetto safaita[1] è un idioma arabo, conosciuto grazie a migliaia di iscrizioni epigrafiche datanti al periodo che dal I millennio a. C., giunge fino al IV secolo d. C., rintracciate nei deserti al confine della Siria, dell'Arabia Saudita e della Giordania.

Sarebbe una forma di alfabeto sud-semitico. Le popolazioni delle province romane d'Arabia più prossime al mar Mediterraneo non sembrano averla impiegata, dando da credere perciò che la lingua fosse parlata esclusivamente dai beduini di quelle aree.

Safaitisch ist der Name eines altnordarabischen Dialekts, der durch Inschriften in südsemitischer Schrift überliefert wurde. Die Inschriften wurden von beduinischen und halb-nomadischen Einwohnern der syrischen Wüste erstellt. Datiert werden die Inschriften um den Zeitraum zwischen 1. Jh. v. Chr. und dem 4. Jh. n. Chr. Der Safaitische Dialekt wurde ab dem 7. Jh. n. Chr. durch das klassische Arabisch ausgelöscht.[en] Safaitic
Safaitic (Arabic: صفائية Ṣafāʾiyyah) is a variety of the South Semitic scripts used by the nomads of the basalt desert of southern Syria and northern Jordan, the so-called Ḥarrah, to carve rock inscriptions in various dialects of Old Arabic and Ancient North Arabian.
