Frank McGuinness (* 29. Juli 1953 in Buncrana im County Donegal) ist ein irischer Dramatiker, Dichter und Übersetzer.

Leben

McGuinness studierte englische Literatur am University College Dublin. Nach Abschluss des Studiums arbeitete er als Dozent zuerst an der University of Ulster und danach an der National University of Ireland, Maynooth. Er ist „Writer in Residence“ und seit 2007 auch Professor für Kreatives Schreiben am University College Dublin.

Sein erster dramatischer Erfolg war Factory Girls (1982). Kurz danach hatte er seinen wahrscheinlich größten Erfolg mit dem vielfach ausgezeichneten Stück Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme (1985).

Seine Gedichtsammlung Booterstown ist 1994 veröffentlicht worden.

McGuinness lebt in Booterstown bei Dublin.

Professor Frank McGuinness[1][2] (born 1953) is an Irish writer. As well as his own plays, which include The Factory Girls, Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme, Someone Who'll Watch Over Me and Dolly West's Kitchen, he is recognised for a "strong record of adapting literary classics, having translated the plays of Racine, Sophocles, Ibsen, Garcia Lorca, and Strindberg to critical acclaim".[3] He has also published six collections of poetry, and two novels. McGuinness has been Professor of Creative Writing at University College Dublin (UCD) since 2007.[1]
