Some linguists^[who?] argue that it is a dialect of the Ladin language,^{[citation needed]} because it shares many similarities.^[discuss] It is alternatively considered as a dialect belonging to the range of Gallo-Italic languages of Northern Italy.

Il dialetto noneso (nome nativo nònes),[1] anche anaunico o naunico,[1] è un idioma romanzo in uso nella Val di Non in Trentino. Prende il nome dagli antichi abitanti retici della valle, gli Anauni.[2] Secondo alcuni linguisti, esso è una variante del ladino dolomitico; altri sostengono che il noneso non sia altro che l'adattamento temporale linguistico della lingua reto-romanza che veniva parlata nella Valle di Non e di Sole al latino; esso presenta numerose varianti, a seconda del villaggio in cui viene parlato. Sotto il profilo linguistico è molto affine al dialetto solandro della adiacente bassa Val di Sole e della Val di Rabbi, tanto che Graziadio Isaia Ascoli, uno dei maggiori studiosi di linguistica ladina, qualifica entrambe le parlate come "nonese".
