It belongs to the Kampan branch of the Arawak family, and is most closely related to Matsigenka, with which it is partially mutually intelligible.,[2][3]

The language is also sometimes called Kogapakori (variants: Cogapacori, Kugapakori), a pejorative term of Matsigenka origin meaning 'violent person'.[4]

Il Pucapucari, o Nanti,[2] è una lingua Arawakan parlata da circa 250 persone nella Foresta Amazzonica peruviana sudorientale, ed è parlata in poche piccole comunità situate vicino alle sorgenti dei fiumi Camisea e Timpía.
